As we approach the first Sunday of the NFL season, I want to take a moment to address an important uni-related development that you may have missed — or at least you may not have realized its uni-related significance.
I’m talking about NFL commish Roger Goodell’s new four-year contract extension, which was announced last weekend. It will keep Goodell running the league through March of 2031, by which time he will have been commissioner for 25 years — longer than anyone except Pete Rozelle.
Goodell’s no angel, and there are plenty of valid critiques that could be leveled at him, but I was still happy to hear he’ll be sticking around. Why? Because he is apparently the bulwark that has kept advertising patches off of NFL uniforms.
