White Sox pulled a nice okie doke today. Runner on first breaks for second on a pitch, drawing a throw from the pitcher, runner on third easily scores, runner from first runs around fielder to be safe at second. Nice bit of baseball ballet.
I was watching the game on TV and seeing the throwbacks was a pleasant surprise as I didn't know they'd be celebrating the ’86 Mets. Lindor had stirrups, Torrens wore high socks, but everyone else seemed to go long pants with inseams just long enough for the pants to end at the ankles.
I have noticed in recent years that baseball pants have gone to a more fitted look and that that look actually seemed like it complemented the Mets throwbacks better than looser and baggier pants.
Also Murphy said he liked the throwback uniforms when he did wear them and Gary Cohen talked about the racing stripes being very much a product of the ’80s but alluding to Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez not being fans of that uniform.
My only unanswered question from yesterday was - were the players' sunames DYMO labelled onto the helmets? They got the blue squatechee right. I forget what color the underbrim of the cap should have been so I couldn't check that off.
Two baserunning sliding mitts? Man I feel like an old man yelling at the clouds and telling everybody to get off my lawn. One isn’t enough? Back in my day, players would hold their batting gloves in their hands to keep their fingers in. I can’t believe that the “just because” yellow cleats isn’t the silliest thing on that Florida Marlin player. Oops, Miami. Yeah I’m old
But haven't they been wearing black since, essentially, birth? I'm pretty sure it was an accent color and they had black alt jerseys their 2nd or 3rd year (if not first). They need to bring back the teal though - that teal/black combo went HARD!

Yes, dymo names on the helmets. Also, the old orange "NY" logo, instead of the reflective "NY" they currently use for non-throwback games.

Those '86 uniforms looked better with stirrups. 🙂
