In Case You’re Wondering…

Some of you have been e-mailing me to say that you’re getting “malware warning” messages when you visit the site today.

The first and most important thing to know is that your computer will NOT be harmed by visiting the site. We are under attack by a spambot that has inserted blind ad links into some of our scripts. This is so the ’bot’s owners can piggyback on our traffic and increase its Google rankings. Annoying but harmless.

How do you know the site is safe? Here’s a good way: Google automatically stops indexing a site if they think it’s infected with anything harmful (we had this problem last year when we were attacked by a different kind of ’bot). But if you Google “Uni Watch” right now our site still comes up fine.

Webmaster John Ekdahl managed to fix the problem last week without too much trouble, and I’m sure he’ll be able to do it again this time. I’ve left him a message, but of course today’s a holiday, so he probably won’t be able to work on it right away.

Honestly, though, the site is okay, your computer is okay, we’re all okay. Carry on, and my apologies for the hassle. Scroll down to the next entry for today’s regular content. — Paul

Bad news for you haters of Claret and Blue in the English Premier League. In addition to Aston Villa and West Ham, Burnley has won promotion to the EPL, making it 3 teams with the same Claret and Blue scheme!

I had to say that the Astros-Reds game today shows that, overall, the blue hats may be better for the stars and stripes hats. The red hats look very good, color-wise, with the Reds uniforms, a near perfect match. On the other hand the bright red hats with the Astros’ brick red uniform lettering looks bad, almost generic. It almost looks like a hat you would see at lids next to a neon green Yankees hat, the color just does not work as an “on the field” hat unless the team’s shade of red is bright red.

The blue may have looked bad on a lot of teams last year, but one could argue that the fact that the color was muted in comparison to this years red model, it makes for a more acceptable non-match.

Both are silly, but the blue would probably be a better option for most teams if they are forced to pick.

    David Price is making his 2009 debut in the stars and stripes cap today. Just like he did in 2008;

OK – I’m watching my Cubs play wearing red hats. IT’S JUST WRONG!!!

If I wanted red hats I’d be a Cardinal fan. Ugh.

yeah, well you’d be a lot happier that way now wouldn’t you.

Here is a link to an interview the MLB Network guys did with Billy Hall of the Brewers after his walk-off win against the Cards today. Two things about it, you can see the “M” in the dirt behind the pitchers mound has stars and stripes in it (they did this last year too), just like the hats, and Hall is asked about the un-tucking of their uni’s at the end of the game. I know most of us know the meaning of it, but in case some don’t, here it is again:

OK, so you can’t see the stars and stripes on the mound ’cause they have a graphic covering it up. Here is a link to another video where you can see it:

These new red caps make it look like everyone became a fan of Limp Bizkit and Fred Durst

I don’t like the red hats compared to the blue ones. They just stand out way too much.

MLB just needs to scrap the whole idea of Memorial Day hats. Just do something like they already do for Mother’s Day with the pink. Wristbands or bats. The hats thing is confusing and ugly. I was watching the Brewers/Cards game and I kept getting confused as to who was batting or in field.

    Hey Paul,

That cap is called the “BEars Tradition Cap” which can be found here: link

    Hope that answers your question
