Looks Like Another Long Night for Mrs. Claus…

Picture 3.png

… but that’s what happens when you shack up with a guy like Santa, who, as I’ve been saying for years, is a bad seed. Serves both of them right.

Anyway: Ho-ho-ho and all that, boys and girls. As promised, here are the 32 winners of the Uni Watch holiday raffle:

1. Brian Russell
2. Jeff Apple
3. Rob Bindeman
4. Dan Luther
5. Hugh McBride
6. Petter Schinkai
7. Matt Gamertsfelder
8. David Rosenthal
9. Nicholas Schiavo
10. René Zepeda
11. Michael C. Wilson
12. Benjamin Bonnet
13. Jeremiah McElwain
14. Jason Tirotta
15. Austin Jones
16. Bob Andrews
17. Jon Silber
18. Nicole Haase
19. Peter Thompson
20. Charles Neiswender
21. Daniel King
22. Kenneth Clark
23. James Wortham

26. Andrew Matthews
27. Taylor Davidson
28. Jordan Rose
29. Jason Dunmire
30. Matthew Hackethal
31. Kyle Shannon
32. Jeff Pudlo

The top winner, Brian Russell, gets his choice of the 32 prize lots listed here; the next person on the list gets his choice of the 31 remaining prizes; and the person after that gets to choose from the 30 remaining prizes; and so on.

All winners should e-mail me to claim their prizes. When doing so, please (a) provide your shipping address, and (b) observe the following protocol: If you’re the second-place winner, provide two prize choices, in order of preference; the third-place winner should provide three prize choices, in order of preference; and so on. Basically, whatever number you are on the list, that’s the number of prize choices you should provide me with.

For those choosing among the batting gloves (remember there are 15 separate prizes consisting of two pairs of gloves), please indicate which two pairs you want from these photos of the extra-large, large, and medium gloves (just indicate “Large, top row, third from left,” or whatever applies). I’ll do my best to honor specific glove requests but I might end up having to substitute a different pair depending on people’s choices.

I think that’s it. Comments will be open today; site will be closed tomorrow. Have a happy and a merry, and I hope each and every one of you finds yourself under the mistletoe with someone who’s wearing striped socks.

    Good morning. Merry Christmas.

I miss the Blue-Gray Game. At least there was always ONE football game on Christmas Day.

Okay…so who got what from Santa?

    —Ricko

Seeing as Christmas usually comes with more than a dollop of nostalgia, I thought I’d post these today.

Wheaties, sports, unis in comic book style…ah, the days of kidhood. These all were outside back covers of Lone Ranger comic books…

    January, 1953

And, yes, they’re big. Close to actual size.

    —Ricko

So I bought myself a old Columbus Clippers fitted hat for Christmas.

I love ships especially clippers and most especially clippers from landlocked Ohio cities.

Either way that’s my uniform gift. (My sister got a Brett Favre T-shirt too bad he wont be on the team next year).

    That’s a very dude-centric raffle list. 31-0-1 with #10 under review.. :)

I got a 1955 Roy Campanella card, a Nationals blue road cap (blue and gold MLB logo, weird), and the 1977 McDonalds Super Bowl History series I mentioned a week or so ago.

And, peripherally pop culture Uni-related, I got an link

Merry Christmas morning to the UW-verse — best holiday sporting tradition know to few in these parts: the Boxing Day Cricket Test from Melbourne, this year featuring South Africa versus the Aussies. Radio feed available online from the ABC, Video from some friendly sources on justin.tv.

I bought myself a pair of New Balance 993’s for Christmas! But all I want for Christmas is for Ted Thompson to be fired. My fiancee and her family doesn’t open presents until like noon! What did I get myself into?

Happy holidays to you and yours!

Johnny O, the 993’s were my dream gift. What color? I settled for a new pair of black 992’s. And the EXPENDABLE shirt is hilarious, TD! Hope everyone has a great day.

merry christmas everybody. nice video Phil.

and onto the uni’s, did anyone else think that notre dame looked strange with NOBs last night?

names on ND did look weird, and since they won with them they probably want to keep doing it.

thought of the golden seals discussion the other day when i saw this link 5 Sports Franchises That Folded

Wow, that’s a piece of artwork. We’re excited up here for a beautiful, cold Minnesota Christmas morning. Time to lace up the link!

That shirt is priceless! Phenomenal gift!

#18 is a female as well, I’m assuming.

Most uni-related gifts for me would be Carl Edwards Nascar cap and “Steelers Equipment” white sideline hot jacket.

HEY! Leave it to me to not read UW on the day of my piece! First off, Merry Christmas to everyone! Second, if anyone wants a tee shirt, email me your name, address, and tee shirt size to

link and we’ll send some out on a first come first serve basis (consider it my gift to fellow Uniwatcher’s)!

Third, Eric was amazing to work with and we really did not dictate anything to anyone. He just wanted us to get the best logo for our company and we needed to do it rather quickly because we had a budget to keep to! So we needed quality in a short period of time. And I agree, it’s the company who makes their logo recognizable and my father and brother are working very hard to make that happen!

I’m glad everyone enjoyed the piece. My favorite was the embroidered concept Virginia Lee sent us, I thought that was pretty cool.

Anyways, like i said, email me if you would like a tee (remember, first come first serve). Enjoy the holidays, and hope everyone has a great afternoon!

I posted on today and yesterday’s comments, sorry! Just wanted to make sure everyone saw my post.

Merry Christmas, and I have yet to open any gifts. we had an xmas party last night and we just woke up!

link and link to you all.

So the house is a disaster, and that’s just from Santa’s gifts. We left the gifts we got last night from my wife’s family out in the car. More to come today — heading over to my parents’ house in a couple hours! I’m actually glad I’m going to work tomorrow.

OK, so I got beer, pajamas, a sweater, several pairs of pants, a guitar, a link, and (along the same lines as TD’s “expendable” shirt) some link.

My uni-centered gift was from a site that Paul linked to a while ago called homageclothing.com and i got the pistol pete shirt and it came with teenage mutant ninja turtles trading cards (including the bubble gum which was hard and not enjoyable at all)So Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all

That movie is a classic and THE BEST Christmas movie out. When I was little I wanted a Red Ryder… sigh.

Got a Dallas Stars “uterus” style alternate from a couple of years ago

On a uni related note, it looks like the NBA is putting snowflakes behind the NBA logo on the jerseys of teams that are playing today. Have yet to find game pics yet, but here’s what the patch looks like… link

Standard gray for my 993’s. Nothin’ flashy.

I posted this late last night, and since it’s pretty cool, I’ll post it again.

Anyone see Michael Floyd get the gold flake knocked off his helmet tonight?

It is right at the start of the highlights (about 33% into) the clip on the ESPN page.

    everyone,

i got a mets 5950 from my three little brothers (all under the age of 18). wanna guess which one they got me? (hint: they just don’t “get it”.)

    happy holidays to everyone!

Ricko, great picture of the North Stars and Seals, awash in lovely kelly green and yellow. I believe that is Jude Drouin (sp?) of the Stars in the faceoff. I remember the sideburns.

Great movie for spotting anachronisms an historical inaccuracies on HBO Family right now: “Everyone’s Hero.”

Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field had lights in 1932?
    Bobbleheads in 1932?
Babe Ruth had his first 50-HR season in 1929?
Why the hell is that newsreel footage so grainy when it’s only two days old?

My best gift was the Nebraska Football Vault, the existence of which was kindly brought to my attention by the good people at Uni Watch.

    link

Next best gift: Eric Piatkowski game-used Chicago Bulls (Stags) throwback warmup. Example here.

    link

Remember the “Real Men of Genius” spot which honored the sports talk radio guy who didn’t know his subject? I had a flashback last night.

I was driving home from the Christmas Eve service at church, and had the XM on. ESPN was doing the Notre Dame thrashing of Hawai’i, so I flipped around in search of other sports. I found Sporting News Radio, where the substitute host (from Tampa, BTW; I don’t know his name) was going off on Notre Dame’s uniforms — railing against the “desecration” of NOBs. “Notre Dame has NEVER had names on their jerseys! It’s just WRONG!” Uh … maybe he should research a bit….

My wife got me a game worn Jamal Mayers jersey from the 2008 World Hockey Championships:

Merry Christmas everyone!!! I just want to thank everyone for the time and effort they put into this site. From the creator, to the random message board personalities, this is one of my favorite “nooks” on the web. I hope everyone has a happy and healthy holiday season!

Now, having said that…I received all sorts of uni-related gifts from my loved ones!

The one at the top of the list: A charcoal grill, that is shaped like a football helmet (complete with facemask..which you use to lift the helmet lid up). Pretty good size too (Would fit a good 8 steaks, easy!) I’ll get some pics up once I customize the logos etc. Hooray!

Also received a prank BLACK KRod Mets shirt (I went on a rant about the black a couple weeks ago over dinner)…a White home Mets authentic (Pedro…he cracks me up..this one is also partly an inside joke). And naturally, a Shea Stadium comemerative shot glass.

A few more things, but those are what stands out regarding everything Uni.

    Merry Christmas!!!

A James Bond Christmas today- whew, just got finished opening stuff!

    and..

pristine Sunoco NFL 72 book. Woooo.

i got the yankees fall classic dvds (1996-2000), a yankees laptop cover, yankees backrest pillow, 4 blackhawks tickets (2 for sabres vs blackhawks, 2 for the winter classic!!), and a blackhawks winter classic throwback jersey. id say i made out pretty well!

This wasn’t the only thing that raised a few eyebrows. There were the obligatory So-and-So “got leied” references that come with most games in Hawaii. And Dave Pasch also had a good one with about 30 seconds left in the third quarter, when introducing a story:

“We’re talking about June Jones and what he did for this program.” (Producer shows shot of Pearl Harbor Memorial.) “And well, there’s Pearl Harbor.”

Andre Ware, his analyst, also said Joe Montana was suffering from hypothermia during the infamous link bowl game. (It was actually the flu.)

The good news for Ware was he dropped that little “fact” with about 7:30 remaining in the 4th quarter, when the game was well out of hand and most of the audience had turned out.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

I should have read my own research. link does mention hypothermia. Damn! Well, I guess you learn something new every day.

I apologize. And sorry for three posts.

    Ricko,

I’m still Jonesing without my Christmas Football ….

Why doesn’t someone just run reruns of classic NFL games, not just the championships but let’s say 1960’s games that were competitive or featuring competitive teams.

I’m in New Orleans and I would love to see a full game broadcast from the Saints early years – despite their not often being competitive.

How about some 1960’s to mid 1970’s games featuring contenders, or even good playoff games?

Even the reruns of “This Week in the NFL” would suffice. I never see them anymore, but 4-5 years ago they were on often.

I remember one Saturday 3 years ago when I saw a Notre Dame year end wrap-up show from 1974 with Rusty Lisch QBing the Domers before Joe Montana took over.
