I think the UNC dark blue jersey looked good. To me, the uni was the removal of some bad nike piping from being a very classy alternative look.

Is there any conference in college football, that has such a large gap between quality of football and quality of team uniforms???
Example: Big 10, is probably about an 8.5 on a scale of 1 to 10, on overall uni goodness. (In my opinion, many classic, timeless unis)
They are probably a 2.5 on a scale of 1 to 10, on overall level of competition goodness.
I’d have the SEC as the best overall, uni & quality of play combined.. probably about a 9 (uni) and 9 (level of play).

Ricko, it’s more on the whole “not having the pants remotely match the helmet”. Michigan, Green Bay, etc. wear helmets with yellow in them so that there’s yellow elsewhere in the jersey… Oregon, on the other hand, wears yellow quite arbitrarily. Look at those Arizona State pictures and tell me where else besides the pants that there’s yellow.
Auburn wore their road uniforms for Homecoming today while UT Martin wore orange jerseys that looked to have been made at least 3 hours before the game started.

The black looks like crap and it’s not a school color. They need to jettison it… rapidly. The white looks good, and the green’s grown on me.
Couple things I noticed today:
Stanford, even though they have clean uniforms, doesn’t have TV numbers.
I still miss the old U of O uniforms.
It rains in Eugene.
Oregon’s baseball uniforms look WORSE in person than they do in photographs…
West Virginia’s blue-on-blue looks yeech.

Yikes, what’s everybody got against yellow/light gold pants? They’re everywhere in football, have been for close to 60 years. That mean you don’t like white or silver pants, too?
(Or are you differenating between the colors of Oregon/Michigan and, say, Iowa/Super Bowl Rams? Cuz, yeah, they aren’t the same color. Oregon/Michigan are flat-out YELLOW!)
But, hey, I suppose it depends on when we started following the game. In that context, it’s totally reasonable. It’s just human nature to tend to favor stuff that, generally, is mindful of what we remember from our first experiences.

Michigan, Green Bay, etc. wear helmets with yellow in them so that there’s yellow elsewhere in the jersey… Oregon, on the other hand, wears yellow quite arbitrarily. Look at those Arizona State pictures and tell me where else besides the pants that there’s yellow.[/quote]

Said it before, to me Oregon looked best before they added the black. Those unis were fun, and rightly could be called “unique,” like Temple’s pants striping. Unfortunately, instead of remaining unique they became trendsetting (Cal, Minnesota…ad nauseum).

The third/navy jersey for the Heels has been hinted at since Butch Davis came on the scene. He even goes with the navy and white for practice. (I’ve never seen them use the Carolina Blue practice jerseys as I have checked out the official website since his arrival.)
The Charlie “Choo Choo” Justice connection is something that has been mentioned from the beginning–only to make it more palitable when it happened.
Back in the late 1980s when Dick Crum was finishing his head coaching stint, Carolina’s white unis featured navy/black numbers and looked horrendous with the Carolina blue helemt–at least the home jersey remained unchanged.
As for the argyle–it only goes back to 1991 when Alexander Julian (a UNC grad and designer of the original Charlotte Hornets unis) incorporated it in the redesign. That was also the first time navy appeared in the basketball unis–earlier it was black and the 1957 Champs even had red piping on the sleeves and neckline. I have now even heard the basketball team referred to as “the argyle.”
My fear now is that we will come running out sometime in navy basketball unis. I can see the third uni thing in football and I don’t mind it, but on the hardwood I think I would actually puke–it would seem too much like Dook with their black.
And BTW–No argyle in the FB unis. It would be a disaster on the order of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Also, I am just waiting also for all the possible color combinations we can have like the Tennessee Titans since we introduced the Navy pants at Rutgers this year.
Navy monochrome or Carolina blue monochrome? NEITHER!
One last thing–the Carolina style guide calls the navy color, “Tar Heel Deep Blue.” To me it looks navy (and that’s what all the catalogs say).
Ban monochrome in the NFL. Use of alt’s limited to 2x per season.

i may be in the minority, but as a fourth-year Oregon student today’s combo is one of my favorite combos that we wear. the white-white-yellow thing from asu two weeks ago was stupid. My favorite Oregon unis:
Green-Black-Yellow (helmet-top-pants)
All White
White-White-Green
Green-Yellow-Green
Worst: Anything with the Grellow helmets, all yellow (green lid), all black (green lid), and the ASU combo.[/quote]

It’s the Hall of Fame Game patch, Phil. Good on you for the hockey patch knowledge. That’s probably why you got a tan box – knowledge in all the major sports. ;o)
The Leafs wear them every year for during the Hall of Fame Game weekend. I don’t see one on the Canadiens in that picture, but the opposing team usually wears them as well.

I know we’re friends, but I’m going to have to disagree with you about the unis today. I thought they looked like crap. And I’ll have to agree with The Hemogoblin, the black is not a school color. I hate it that the basketball team has it too. Also, hate our uniforms for band. I think they look like warmups, and that is lazy. Good playing with you at homecoming though!
did the Rams ever wear this style?
I know they had the gold piping for two seasons, but with those pants?

I agree, the band uniforms look like trash… which is one of the few reasons I didn’t take marching band… (stupid school policy… I really just wanted to do basketball anyways)

It seems people love to hate Oregon and simply blame the uni. But the only thing wrong with there uniforms is the diamond plate. If they replaced that with tv numbers, or puddles, or something like that, then the uni’s would be outstanding.
No horns, no piping, clean lines. It’s a good uniform. (sans d-plate).
The green helmet is just plain awesome. You need to see it in person & in the sunlight to appreciate it. It is a special paint designed to replicate the sheen from a mallards feathers. What a sweet idea! And the O is designed after Hayward field (previous FB stadium) and the original Autzen. The exterior circumference of the O is Autzen Stadium and the inside is the track from Hayward Field. There aren’t many schools around who put that much thought into the design of one letter.
