Fukumori Funny Business

Fuku

The Rangers introduced Japanese pitcher Kazuo Fukumori on Friday, doing the usual jersey-and-cap thing both in the home clubhouse and in the dugout. But check this out: Red T on the lid — and an old 5950 to boot. Presumably a few minutes later, Fukumori headed down the tunnel to the dugout. And now the T is white. What the Fuk?

If Fukumori faces Kosuke Fukudome of the Cubs, things will be all Fuked up.

Thanks folks — you’ve been great! Be sure to try the prime rib; it’s the best in town! — Bryan

Charlton Athletic have been made to borrow some of West Bromwich Albion’s shorts for their Championship football/soccer match today due to a colour clash

If only the latter Japanese import played for the Rays or the Twins… they could rename their stadium…

    Heh heh, Beavis, you said…

I’m fairly positive this is not new. The Rangers have had several T color alternates for the last few years – I’ve given up trying to keep track of them, to be honest. :)

Looks like the sock shenanigans of Antoine Winfield finally caught up with him. Fined a big 10k. Doesn’t say if Cedric Griffin was fined.

Is it me or do the letters on the back of Fukumori’s jersey start out small, increase in size and then get smaller again? Compare the K and I.

It could be how the jersey was handled to give off a false illusion.

Somebody seriously messed up his last haircut. Maybe if they offer him a signing bonus, he can afford to have it evened up.

The middle letter certainly do seem teller than the first and last letters.

I know what you mean. I go to a bunch of Rangers games every season, but I’ve stopped trying to keep track of all their silly hats. I just wear my 20-year old blue and 10-year old red 5950s and leave it at that.

    Cubs should have signed Fukulights.

After Kosuke’s signing, I thought the Chicago papers’ headline should have been “Welcome to the Fukudome”.

he was stating that it was strange how his hats changed in the middle of this press conference/photo shoot.

I always liked the Rangers cap with the red T, and always thought it should be used as the home cap since the T in the Rangers logo is red. The only time I can think of seeing it worn in a game is the 2001 All-Star game by A-Rod when he had Cal move to SS.

although in most cases i hate the high socks “look” in all sports,
    baseball, football, basketball
(gimme long pants in baseball, and no show or ankle socks in football and hoops)
i think that the above look of winfield, and also most notably the previous white legged, and solid green legged looks of charles woodson this season looked great.

Northwest Missouri State University is playing for the D2 football championship right now on espn2. this may interest only me since i’m an alum but NW has a different uni template and font for road unis than they have for home. the road white looks much, much better. i wish they would use the road template for the home unis.

also NW only puts NOB for national championship games.

Watching the Division 2 championship and Valdosta States jerseys struck me as odd.

They jerseys appear to be Nike’s old Orlando Predator jerseys (pre Russell AFL contract). The Preds never wore white pants with their black jerseys (and the stripes on Valdosta’s jersey don’t match the stripe on their pants).

I also did some searching and it appears that Valdosta used to wear solid black jerseys (no red) but I can’t tell how long ago they switched (seems like this year). I think that the jerseys don’t go AT ALL with the rest of their jerseys…ugly combination…

I know we saw what looked like recycled Auburn jerseys, but is NikeWorld recycling a bunch of old jerseys to lower level college teams?

    GO PREDS!

The lettering isn’t arched, so those letters have to be ‘Inflated Up’, I think the term is. Never seen that kind of style applied to a NOB before.

If that’s really how they’re doing it (I think it’s just an illusion though), then the first ‘S’ and the last ‘A’ on Saltalamacchia’s NOB might only be an inch tall.

This whole Fuku thing reminds me of Austin Powers in Goldmember,

Northwest Missouri State uses a different home and road uniform. Their home uniform is a green and white version of last year’s Miami template while their away uniforms are white and green Bronco templates.

I’m not sure why this hasn’t been unilaterally confirmed yet, but in the lead photo, the sleeves of the jersey are hanging backwards, taking part of the shoulders with them, and hanging the first and last letters in the name back at an angle, giving a similar effect as to why letting painted on roads (like STOP and SCHOOL) is so long when viewed from outside of a car

What I wouldn’t give to have Harry Caray back from the dead for one season.

I believe “fuku” means “luck” in Japanese and “mori” means “forest.”

But it’s possible that both parts of the name Fukumori have different meanings.

I think UAB had some pretty nice crisp uni’s today. Basically solid green, with white UAB on the chest, and white stripe on the side. I’ve tried to find a pic, i’m sure it’s been posted before because I think these are new unis.

I think it just looks like that because the two guys holding the shoulders of the jersey (Ron Washington and whoever the Rangers’ GM is?) are holding the shoulders further back than Fukumori, so the nameplate is twisting.

I think it’s more a case of a funny angle and illusion of inflated letters… There is alinkout there, FYI.

You hate Kansas? Come on, it’s not like we’re as bad as Duke, the team that everyone loves to hate.

I think that everyone hates the red uniforms. Bill Self has even stated that he hates them. I believe that it is written into KU’s contract with Adidas that they have to wear them twice a season. They already wore them once in the preseason, so hopefully this will be the last sighting of the KU reds this season.

    Oh yeah. Trajan SUCKS!!!

Has anyone else noticed all the problems with merit stickers in the lower divisions.

I noticed w/ App. St and Mt.Union that there seemed to be no set pattern on how to place the stickers. Some had them filling up the back, some had it forming a stripe in the center. One guy for Mt. Union had a Winged Helmet look with his stickers going.

i was at the d3 national championship game today with mount union and wisconsin-whitewater (both of which have purple) playing and there were a couple of things i noticed:

-the black on black vs. the white on white looks better than any purple as a main part of the uni

-i was sitting behind the UW-W bench and i noticed that almost all of the helmets have the number 3 decal on them, anybody know why?

I’m an Iowa State fan. I hate Kansas basketball. Most teams from the old Big 8 hate you. I don’t believe we’ve ever played Duke.

I think theyre probably more comfortable. Wouldn’t we all love to wear sweats to work! Anywhey, I thought the ultimate insult to the “winter pants” was that they wore them in the dome at Detroit last week.
