Who do you think won the game last night based on this photo? The guy who is smiling or the guy who is looking all tough and mean?

Of course, Vince Carter, his leggings, and the Nets moved on and will play the Cavs starting Sunday.

Vince’s leggins were the first thing I noticed when I turned the game on. I then proceeded to turn it off.

The thing is, David Stern was in attendance. How was Vince Carter able to wear those things the entire game. Isn’t there also a rule about the arm condom as well?

I dont think there is a rule against the arm condom, AI always wears one at Denver.

Did anybody see the Padres/Marlins games last night?

    link

Also, I was at the Twins/Red Socks game last night and my friend made the comment “Why is that guy’s jersey so baggy?” Any guesses who she was refering to?

I think there’s an exception if you have some sort of knee issue that can be helped by wearing them. Not entirely sure, but I think that may be the case.

Padres were wearing their road uniforms.

Baseball uniforms have gone to total crap. Between stupid solid alternate jersies, no stirrups, solid color soccer socks, pants going down to the shoes, unbuttoned tops, pockets hanging out, etc, I can barely stand it.

Anna, starting last season(I think) the Padres went to that as the stadard road uni, don’t know what color it is exactly…Sand? anyone know?

Baseball uniforms are going through an interesting phase. They did it after the Pirates introduced double-knit, which was OK for a while, then, as has been noted, everything turned to crap. There also was the powder blue phase that was overdone. (As I’ve pointed out, only the Royals should don powder blue road uniforms.) Now we’re in the high-stocking/no stirrup look and the pajama look. Neither is aesthetically pleasing IMO. Eventually, as the Pirates learned during their striped/black/yellow/white days, too much is too much and we’ll slip back to just home and away uniforms. I hold out hope that stirrups make their return and that striped stockings, ala the Red Sox patriot stripes, will make a comeback.

Yeah, it’s sand, or some vcariant thereof.

last night at the Rays-A’s game I met Nick Swisher and he was wearing four ribbons. We may have talked about this before but just reporting on it again anyways. There was the blue one for testicular cancer, the yellow to support the troops, and he had TWO for breast cancer. one was sewed on like the blue and yellow but the other was larger and just pinned on. Any idea why he would have two for breast cancer?

So I guess it’s their sandard road uni. Hmm.

Man, I just do not like those San Diego uniforms. The color just looks so unnatural in baseball. I hate to say it, but I think their pinstripe combo is probably their best uniform that they had. But the swinging Padre is awesome, don’t get me wrong. I will *never* diss the swinging Padre.
    link

Didn’t Cincinnati retire link during games and it is also still featured on their link. It just looks ugly.

Also, on an unrelated note — Why is it that if I “Get it”, I somehow must be gay? Anytime I mention Uni-Watching, the people I mention it to think I’m being a fashionista who has to be gay, because no straight man would look at sports uniforms. Does anyone else have this problem? I know its trivial but its getting annoying.

During yesterday’s yankee game on YES, the cameras panned to the bleachers and a guy was wearing the Jets home green #24 jersey, with a custom “Revis” on the back, Micheal Kay was stunned…

I for one Like the Padres new road uni. It’s a neat color and something about it says cool. But I think it would look better with a differant color sock. That one of Mad Dog looks bad b/c it doesn’t go well with everything else. Not sure what color it needs to be, but it needs changed

Kyle I used to get that too. My roommate used to say it, but now he’s as bad as I am about this stuff.

also, the reds didn’t get rid of that cap. It’s been their road cap all year and was in the fashion show they had when they showed the new uni’s.

Sage Confucious, thank you! A very reasonable price for some pretty decent T-shirts. I have to ask, though, what is the Vintage Republican? Does that have anything to do with politics? Looks like it’s time to break out the plastic. Maybe I can get something in time for Friday’s Twin Cities’ Uni-Watch Party.

Kyle, because they are idiots who can only see things in stereotypical black and white. If you notice anything about fashion, you must be gay. Their loss.

Buckeye Mike, I agree. I like the sand unis as well. However, Greg Maddux looks strange in them. As for converting your roommate to the dark side, that’s the best revenge.

Anna, how did I know it was going to be Manny being Manny?

Their road ballcap still sports a black bill. Looks fine to me. I’m glad they removed the black from their home jerseys/caps but having a little black trim isn’t a big deal, is it?

    Minna–
You could always buy anything on that website at the MOA, you know. Goldy’s Locker Room, 3rd floor across from the old Oshman’s (what a dump that place has become), or one of the hat stores on the first floor as well.

I still can’t believe someone called Boston’s team the “Socks”–dear goodness. They’ve only been the Sox for 100 years or so… I’d hate to find out what Chicago’s South Side team is now called as well.

This board would benefit greatly from all of us taking an extra ten seconds to do a little spell-checking.

In case someone catches a Cleveland game soon, try to decipher what it says on the bottom of Fausto Carmona’s hat. I couldn’t figure it out or get a good screen grab when the Tribe was in the Cities recently.

Has the unveiling of the new Atlantic League’s team’s uniforms been discussed?:

    link

The regular home uniform is nice, but the alterate red home and the road gray both have distracting stripes that look like they came from the Denver Broncos football uniforms.

The vintage jerseys the team intends to use when playing “War of the Roses” games against Lancaster should be spectacular, if they get it right.

The Padres have had those sand road jerseys since they moved into Petco Park, they’re not really that new. It’s their regular road uniform. At first I didn’t like them, but I’ve since grown fond of them.

VC’s leggings may not be actual leggings after all.. It looks like he is wearing tall socks with knee braces and long compression shorts. This picture shows that the socks and the compression shorts are separate materials.

    From Lions rookie camp:

Calvin Johnson’s jersey went from looking like link to looking like link . I sense shenanigans in Detroit.

I also notice that (1) Calvin is keeping the clear visor that he link , (2) holy cow the camera angle makes the guy to the right of the 6’5″ receiver look huge! (in the second pic), and (3) yes, the Lions still need to ditch the black.

I was watching an NFL Europa game this afternoon, and my roommate brought something to my attention. Players did not have any NFL team patches. I did notice a very large NFL Europa patch at the base of the collar, where some NFL patches were last season. But there weren’t even any team patches on the helmets.

Did the league replace affiliate patches with sponsor patches, or did the league do away with any reference to the parent clubs and league?

Hunter Pence of the Astros, while wearing long socks (but not stirrups), just hit his first career home run off the Cardinals and it was a grand slam….Proof positive that the baseball gods smile upon rookies who show sock.

Just thought you Uni Watchers might want to know, I recently decided to go to McGill instead of Northwestern because I didn’t want to have to root for a purple football team. Instead, I get a hockey team that uses blank Detroit Red Wings uniforms with the McGill crest on the belly. Classic. Too bad they wear straight nameplates, though. Vertical arches would have been perfect. But red>purple.

I have heard that as well. I have to remind people that sports uniforms are more akin to graphic design than “fashion.”

I wasn’t aware that having any sort of aesthetic sensibility was necessarily an indication of homosexuality or femininity. Plenty of straight men are interested in things like architecture, automotive/nautical/aerospace design, and other aesthetic pursuits.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

To follow up from the other day. I was at the Red Sox-Mariners make up game on Thursday. The Red Sox no longer use a pink back pack as their bullpen bag. It looked to be a dark green color. However, one of the Mariner’s relievers was carying a pink back pack in from the bullpen after the game. I tried to get pictures, but couldn’t the camera out in time to get a good photo.

I have a weird one: at the Twins/RedSOX game last night, it looked to me like J.D. Drew had something going with his jersey attaching to his rear belt tunnel. I was on the 3rd base line and he spent a bit of time on 3rd as a runner, so I got a decent look- and I could swear that his jersey continued right down over the top of the pants and formed the tunnel for his belt. Anyone else get a look at this? Do I need glasses?

Sorry, no screenshot- I was there in person. I’ll record tonight’s game and see if I see it.

I appreciate the link as well, but (like every other site I’ve seen) no one has solid-colored 59fifties with nothing but the team’s logo on the front (and maybe an NHL shield somewhere) for the Jets, Sharks, or Seals.

Also, why does everyone have to make their t-shirt graphics for defunct teams have that “worn-out” look? What’s wrong with sporting a brand-new, freshly-printed, crisp-at-the-edges, non-faded logo for your favorite hockey franchise failure?

Illinois plans to wear the same uniform colors this season (blue jersey, white pants at home; white jersey, orange pants on the road). But Nike has supplied new orange jerseys, giving the Illini another option, perhaps something to wear for a special occasion.

Brendan, I agree with you about the distressed look of the shirts. I like the black shirt (no surprise), but I don’t like the faded, crinkled look. It’s like the acid-wash ripped jeans. If I want my jeans to look that way, I’ll do it myself.

Illinois plans to wear the same uniform colors this season (blue jersey, white pants at home; white jersey, orange pants on the road). But Nike has supplied new orange jerseys, giving the Illini another option, perhaps something to wear for a special occasion.[/quote]

Well people with taste in Chicago call the south side minor league team the sux.

Correction. Cub fans who feel the need to sink to the level of the other fanbase and take potshots call them the Sux.

The rest of us do the mature thing and simply ignore them, since, you know, they haven’t the slightest effect on what the Cubs do except for 6 games a year.

Correction. Cub fans who feel the need to sink to the level of the other fanbase and take potshots call them the Sux.

The street vendors near both Chicago stadiums seem to enjoy selling “throwback” jerseys disparaging the other team. Outside Wrigley, you can buy 1980s-era “Sux” uniforms, while in the area of Comiskey, you can purchase vintage “Scrubs” uniforms. Now, I don’t understand why a fan of the Cubs or White Sox would want to don apparel that LOOKS just like the opposition (though I do see a lot of Red Sox fans wearing “YH” caps that look just like real Yankee caps, but are supposed to mean “Yankee Hater”)

Also, I was at the Twins/Red Socks game last night and my friend made the comment “Why is that guy’s jersey so baggy?” Any guesses who she was refering to?

Red Sox fans also wear blue Yankees shirts with #2 that says “Jeter Swallows” on the back, and #13 jerseys with “A-Rod Sucks”.

I hate to say it, but I think their pinstripe combo is probably their best uniform that they had. But the swinging Padre is awesome, don’t get me wrong. I will *never* diss the swinging Padre.

I think that logo is called “The Swinging Friar.”
