Stuck in the Chimney: Xmas Open Thread

A rare sight: LaDainian Tomlinson running without his usual dark visor in yesterday’s game against the Seahawks.

Back tomorrow with a regular post. Merry Christmas to all, and a big R.I.P. to the Godfather, who knew a thing or two about how to create a personal uniform.

Merry Christmas Uniwatch Nation!

Thanks for making this one of the coolest places on the ‘net.
The Texans’ blue on blue was a monchrome look I actually liked yesterday.
Heaven help me, I did, too. Maybe it was the linkdown the side that made it not so monochrome-ish.

Merry Christmas everyone..

First..the Texans actually looked alright..and it probably was from the stripe down the legs..

Second..LDT kinda looks a little goofy without the visor..he’s no where near as intimidating without it..Maybe that’s why he didn’t score a TD for me in fantasy for the first time in 10 weeks..

And..only 6 comments and it’s almost 12:00? I know it’s Christmas..but come on..haha..

I found yesterday to be a dark day in the NFL. It made me crazy to see so many teams wearing dark pants. It is just . . . so . . . wrong.

Minnesota at Green Bay
Classic Packers are always good on the eyes, and despite those awful “updates” to the Vikings jersey, this rivalry looked good.

Kansas City at Oakland
Another classic rivalry with expected uniforms. I like the red pants, personally, but I understand those were Lamar Hunt’s favorite combination.

Carolina at Atlanta
I’m more of a classic fan when it comes to uniforms, but surprisingly, I don’t mind Carolina’s all white and I really like the Falcons red. link.

Tennessee at Buffalo
Bleh. I think both of these uniforms are just awful. The white helmets / jerseys look bad when put with those light blue helmets. And the Bills, the consensus is right on all of their new uni’s.

Chicago at Detroit
Worst visual game of the week. Those Lions uniforms are atrocious and the Bears look silly in all white (especially against this very-dark jersey’d Lions team).

Washington at St. Louis
No complaints about this game, but one question: Do the Rams ever wear throwbacks? I’d like to see the royal blue / yellow helmets and jerseys again someday.

New Orleans at New York
I didn’t care for either (I know NY’s is more classic, but I didn’t like those blue sleeves players were wearing) and I will say this about the Saints: I dislike all of their color schemes. The black pants don’t save them like I thought they might.

Indianapolis at Houston
I like the Texan uniforms a lot and the Colts always look great.

Baltimore at Pittsburgh
The usual: Pittsburgh looks great, Baltimore does not.

New England at Jacksonville
I may be alone, but I like the Patriots alternate. It goes good with their helmets. As for the Jaguars… yuck.

Tampa Bay at Cleveland
Those Brown uniforms are SHARP. Tampa Bay’s gold someone how link in the context of the game.

San Francisco at Arizona
The perfect example of how change ruins the look. The 49ers looked great, the Cardinals did not, simple as that.

Cincinatti at Denver
Nevermind the uniforms, how about that snow?! I wish I got to see more snow / rain games.

San Diego at Seattle
San Diego is one of my favorite dressed teams. Seattle is, well, the exact opposite. Monochrome is awful.

Merry Christmas to all!

Merry Christmas to all. I did indeed spot Santa, and he was wearing his throwback classic road uni of red coat/hat with white trim. However, I think the boots were from Adidas, so I don’t know if a fine is coming…

The only time thge Rams have worn throwbacks was during the 75th anniversary season of the NFL back in 1994.

As for the Titans, what the hell are you talking about them having a light blue helmet? They have a white helmet.

And I like how they look when they wear the light blue pants, as a matter of fact I thought I was watching a replay of a game back when they were still the Oilers. Mark my words, within 5 years the light blue pants are going to be the primary and not an alternate uni for the Titans.

Merry Xmas to all, and to all, no purple, lots of throwbacks under the tree and on the field.
Santa, please bring back link

Hawai’i went with the ultra-cool white over silver combo, then botched with the midnight-green helmets. The silver lids are way more appealing, and I dig the single band around the left leg only.

This isn’t technically uni-related, but you have to tune in to ESPN Monday Night Countdown and check out the suit that Michael Irvin is pimping. I think he may have forgotten to take off his special xmas flannel pajamas!

Tampa Bay – gold? it’s Pewter, not gold

S.F. Jerseys – Had to stop & think to realize they’re throwbacks, don’t see ’em much back east anymore

Michael Irvin – My wife sez he’s wearing a Picnic Table cloth…

I disagree with most of your points here but especially the below 2:

I see nothing wrong with Jaguars uniforms that would make me think yuck. They’re just fine as is with the exception of the repeating Jag head logo.

Baltimore has a unique color scheme and their white uniforms are fine. They also get credit for use of a secondary logo.

Yeah that would be awesome if the Titans’ light blue pants were primary and the navy blue pants get phased out. Less navy blue is a good thing. Chargers, Patriots, Cowboys, and Bears can keep it.

Let’s see, uni-related items from S.Claus today- SF Giants Majestic dugout jacket, and Giants Majestic new fleece pullover. Not bad. Now, if we could just win some more games in 07…

What I love about the Cowboys’ throwbacks (which are being worn tonight):

1. They look great. I always thought the white and navy blue looked better than the silver and navy blue.

2. The jerseys are primarily blue, so the Cowboys are bound to lose.

Merry Christmas from DC, Dallas fans!

Madden just went on a 2 minute extended rant on how much he hates the Cowboys unis.

Most coherent he’s sounded in years

You’re right i’m surprised that they looked as great as they did. I would would have the team wear them more than once a year. Amazing

And Merry Christmas to ya’ll. I love you guys.
Madden just went on a 2 minute extended rant on how much he hates the Cowboys unis.

Yeah, that. I perked up when I heard it, Jeff. He mentioned how they looked JV, not like the ‘Boys at all and how the Cowboys lost when they wore them for Turkey Day. Madden went on to say, “I’m not saying that they are the reason the Cowboys are losing…” but he intimated that the ‘Boys should ditch them.

I couldn’t believe that I was actually agreeing with Madden instead of rolling my eyes. He must not have hit the eggnog yet.

Have fun and be safe, y’all.

But the Patriots were just wearing their road whites yesterday, not their silver alternates.

Merry Christmas all uniwatchers!

#20…

As a Panther fan, I know the Cats wear silver pants with the back and alt top, and white pants with the white top.

Only ONCE in the history of the franchise did they ever wear silver pants with a white top. I believe it was either 98 or 99 in the final game of the season while visiting Indy. The Panthers won if I recall correctly.

If I can find a pic, I’ll post it.
As link as some of yesterday’s unis were (why saints…why!), we did get blessed with this link (look ma! no drop shadows!).
I don’t think people realize that the 49ers current uniform was influenced by the link. This site is taken directly from UniWatch’s right column bar.
Carolina’s pants are silver, not all white unis.
Actually their pants are white for their road uniforms.
link
link
However, they do have silver pants for their home uniforms.

For some reason the Fish are wearing their aqua jersey’s at home tonight. Anyone know why?

Scott,

Carolina does NOT have a designated “home” and “away” uniform. In the first half of the season, Carolina elects to wear white at home (they do not wish to wear dark unis in the heat of the Carolina sun of Sept and Oct). They change to their dark unis for home after the mid way point of the season.

My reply to your post however was not about “home” or “away” uniforms…it was about their colorways…

Always white tops w/ white pants (except the one game in 1998 v Indy)

Always black/alt top w/ silver pants (except the one game in 1998 v Indy)

I still cannot find a pic of that game.

Ehh, ’cause it’s raining and it’s a night game and it’s the one day of the year when it’s not 95 degrees with 85% humidity?

Forgot to add in my previous post that I also like the Texans monochrome look, much more then I thought I would.

As for Roberts comment about how awful it is for teams to wear dark pants, I think it’s just plain boring if a team wears a white jersey and whie pants. To me it shows no effort or creativity at all.

And I really have to wonder why Jerry Jones ever decided to go with the actual throwback unis, ’cause when the Cowboys originally wore them they were without exception the single worst team in pro football. Just wierd seeing how much of a na egomaniac he is, going so far as to lie about the teams history and have Dallas 1-15 record in the late attributed to Tom Landry and the previous owner when it actually occured under Jones and Jimmy Johnson.

link are definetly white, not silver.

I’ve heard that the Carolina Panthers wear white jerseys at home early in the season. Once they go to dark jerseys, they wear the blue until it gets cold, then wear the black (mostly after Thanksgiving).

I still have my inaugural fan jersey from 1995. It’s black with blue numbers trimmed in silver.

Panther fan here too. the “rule” isnt quite that set in stone, for instance this year they wore black before their “alternate” game.

Another interesting piece of trivia, the Panthers have never worn black in the playoffs. In the 3 times they’ve gone to the playoffs (9 total games) they’ve only had 2 home games, and both of those they wore white. why? both times they were playing the Cowboys and wanted to force them to wear their “unlucky” blues. Worked too, they’ve never lost in the wild card or divisional round of the playoffs.

they talked about it back before the team started play in 95 but decided it was too hot. The original uniform they released for publicity shots was a blue jersey with silver numbers with black pants. Obviously that design was changed prior to game day.

oddly enough, the panthers/cougars/mountain lions we have in the Carolinas aren’t black, but tan. Of couse tan doesnt look as cool on a uniform, so they used the black panther for the team colors. the NC Zoo even brought in some black panthers from Africa just so they could say there were some black ones SOMEWHERE in the state.

Huh. I didn’t know that there were panthers that weren’t black. Thanks for the education, mark. I understand about the heat thing, but I still think it’s a shame that the one team with a built-in excuse to wear all black doesn’t do it. Oh well.
