Sunday Open Thread (kinda late, sorry)

Floyd Mayweather, Jr., wears pink gloves in his Saturday-night bout against Carlos Baldomir. Also worth noting: the ridiculous gladiator getup Mayweather wore when entering the ring (if he really wants huge pecs and a six-pack, why can’t he just take steroids like everyone else?).

In the Jaguars-Titans game, the Jags are wearing their “official” home unis (green shirts, white pants), while the Titans are wearing the white pants with their white shirts (first time I’ve seen that since their ’02 home opener against the Eagles). Could it be that the Titans are going to follow the lead of the Seahawks, wearing all blue at home and all white on the road?

Niners in their retro alts today. Word is #16 will be behind center, too—-just win, baby.

These cold weather ref shirts look even worse than the short sleeve version. Are they leather or some kind of cheap gortex? The short sleeves have that idiotic collar that looks like a bow tie, but the long sleeve seem to have the collar up so they look like priests. This is just pathetic.

No self-respecting gladiator would be caught dead wearing that boxer’s faux-armor in the Colosseum … he’d rather fall on his own sword, wearing only his birthday suit, right in front of the Vestal Virgins.

The 49ers need to ditch their current uniforms and go back to the basics. Current uni is way too busy. Their real uniform is classic. Maybe have thinner pant stripes, like older days (pre pre-montana).

You mean like when they wore silver-gray helmets and pants?

Watching the Bears/Dolphins tilt, and CBS just had a close-up of Benson from Chicago — his “C” decal on his right side has been torn and it looks like the top half of the C is now a spike sticking up! No screen grab, tho…

Really, all they need to do is what so many other teams need to do — get rid of that damn black drop-shadow. Does that ever look good? EVER???

Agreed. A lot of people thought the addition of black was a great thing. I disagree. There was nothing wrong with the old look and adding black is usually never a good thing.

As a Bears fan, that decal reminds me of an upside-down question mark, as for their play against the Dolphins today: “what the hell happened???!” Just awful.

I know that this has been dicussed here before, but I was wondering where I could get a Detroit Tigers 2006 World Series Champions t-shirt. I know they lost, but I am looking for a Christmas present for my Dad, a Tigers fan.

Try eBay. I’m not sure what they do with the shirts, exactly, but eBay would probably be your best bet.

Personally? I wouldn’t want a shirt like that. If they won, definitly. Get him an AL Champions shirt instead.

great aesthetic game today; Browns vs Chargers. Chargers in their AFL togs, Browns in white. GO BROWNS!

A lot of that sort of merch gets sent to third world countries to clothe the poor. I’m sure there’s someone in Sub-Saharan Africa that thinks the Bills have won 4 Superbowls.

also you tend to find those when the series goes to a 7th game and they have to print up both in case either team wins. but the tigers got whooped and i dont know if they printed any because there was no circumstance where they were close to winning the serieis

also, there are no bills 4 superbowl shirts, because they would have to have won the other 3 for that to happen, but since they never did no one would ever print a 4th superbowl shirt when they hadnt won one yet

I think he meant that someone in sub-saharan Africa probably has 4 different bills championship shirts, not 1 single 4 championsihps shirt, but either way the comment, although humorous, has been made before and is pretty unoriginal

i assume the pink gloves and shorts are for breast cancer, right? i hope so, or else boxing is in worse shape them we thought

on behalf of mets fans, let me say to niners fans, welcome to the ditch the black campaign :)

and in response to my name is not earl, here’s to saying a prayer no one follows any lead the seahawks take as far as uniforms go.

i am watching the niners-browns game and braylon edwards is wearing one black and one white amr sleeve with one orange glove and one black glove. it looks like something that nike would do. something like this, so that both gloves don’t match.

Watching the Chargers-Browns game and it appears Godfrey has a bent bar on his facemask. The upper part of the bar on his left is bent downward. I dont have any photos though.

No, the ones in about 1970 or so. The only difference in the Montana era is the stripes on the pants. If my link doesn’t work, it is the late John Brodie era.

pretty cool that lance chose that number.
10/02 is the date he was diagnosed with cancer.

It’s on just about every piece of apparel he puts out. thanks nike, for making a marketing gimmick out of something horrible.

So. I got to see the falling ‘C’ on Cedric Benson’s helmet. I got to see the Vikes wearing their least-offensive unis (all white with random purple striping). I got to see the ‘Niners old-timey unis. I got to see the impressive Ed Hochuli ripple underneath those ridiculous windbreaker unis the refs wore today. I got to see *sigh* Troy Polamalu and his flowing locks of hair. This is all good.

Do you know what I did not get to see today? The team for whom I was rooting get a win. That pretty much wipes out the aforementioned pleasures in one fell swoop, proving that a win triumphs aesthetic beauty (or, in the case of the falling C, aeshetic folly) every time.

I have heard a lot of people that complain about the 10/02 campaign but anything to raise money for cancer research is a good thing/

You know what is worse than slimy political ads during the game? Christmas ads during the game. Ahhhhh! And they start earlier and earlier each year. Before you know it, they will be on all-year round. I don’t know how I can like the Wild! uniform when I hate Christmas so much, but I do. If I never saw another Christmas ad, it would be too soon.

They are wearing white at home for 2 games this season. They had the exact two listed on their site with the alternate jersey schedule, but now that they’ve got Target as a sponsor for the “Red Jersey Nights”, they re-wrote the page and it no longer mentions which 2 games will be white.

Rest assured, it’s 2 games, and neither has occurred yet this season.

Sorry, BJ, but very wrong. 10/2 was not his number for the marathon, simply the screenprinted graphic on his shirt. His safetypinned number paper on his stomach is what’s in question. On it, it simply says “LANCE” no 4924 or anything that he was randomly assigned when he checked in.

So, yes, it’s a Nike funded promotion. No, it’s not a gimmick. I think Lance is the largest benefactor to cancer research maybe in history. After having worked for Nike, I’m sure a portion of the 10/2 sales go to his foundation.

I guess my point is this: Don’t knock an honorable cause.
